Xabi Alonso wants to reunite with Granit Xhaka following their successful spell together at Bayer Leverkusen.
It is reported Xhaka has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and is keen to reunite with Alonso.
However, Sunderland consider Xhaka untouchable and have no intention of selling him. The Black Cats would demand an extremely high fee for their captain.
Xhaka led the newly promoted Black Cats to Europa League qualification. The 33-year-old played a vital role in Sunderland’s success and was immediately made captain following his move from Leverkusen last summer.
The midfielder made 34 Premier League appearances last season, registering seven goal contributions, including six assists.
Xhaka is currently at the World Cup with Switzerland, who finished top of Group B and will face Algeria in the round of 32.
