Germany vs Ecuador: World Cup betting preview

Germany and Ecuador go head-to-head tonight in what could be one of the most entertaining matches of the World Cup group stage so far.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have already booked their place in the knockout rounds after victories over Curaçao and Ivory Coast, scoring six goals across those two matches. Ecuador, meanwhile, sit on one point, meaning a positive result here would all but guarantee their own progression to the last 16.

With Germany chasing top spot and Ecuador aiming to complete an impressive qualification campaign, neither side is expected to settle for a draw.

Germany have looked every bit like genuine title contenders. Jamal Musiala has been one of the players of the tournament so far, while Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz have consistently caused problems in the final third. Nagelsmann’s side are playing with confidence and have scored at least twice in each of their group matches.

Ecuador, however, have quietly become one of the toughest teams to beat in South America. Moisés Caicedo continues to drive the team from midfield, while Enner Valencia remains a proven goalscorer on the international stage.

Both Teams To Score

Germany have been one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacking teams, but Ecuador possess enough quality to threaten at the other end.

Die Mannschaft have scored six goals in two matches and created plenty of chances against both Curaçao and Ivory Coast. However, they did concede against the Ivorians and have occasionally looked vulnerable when opponents attack quickly in transition.

That is exactly where Ecuador can be dangerous. Valencia’s movement and the energy of Caicedo in midfield give them the tools to create opportunities against even the strongest sides.

With Germany expected to attack from the first whistle and Ecuador needing points to strengthen their qualification hopes, both teams finding the net looks a strong selection.

Jamal Musiala Anytime Goalscorer

Few players have started this World Cup better than Jamal Musiala.

The Bayern Munich star has been at the heart of everything good about Germany’s attacking play, combining goals, assists and relentless creativity. His ability to drift into dangerous positions makes him incredibly difficult to mark, while his confidence appears sky-high after an excellent start to the tournament.

Against an Ecuador side likely to spend long periods defending, Musiala should see plenty of the ball in advanced areas.

If Germany continue their impressive scoring form, there is every chance their standout performer gets on the scoresheet once again.

Score Prediction: Germany 3-1 Ecuador
