Man Utd Agree Deal for Benjamin Sesko After Beating Newcastle to Signature

Manchester United have agreed a deal in principle with RB Leipzig to sign highly rated striker Benjamin Sesko, beating Newcastle United to his signature after weeks of transfer speculation.

The deal is worth £66.3 million (€76.5m) up front with a further £7.4 million (€8.5m) in performance-based add-ons, making it one of United’s most significant signings of the summer.

Sesko, 22, is already in Manchester and is scheduled to complete his medical on Friday. If paperwork is completed in time, he could be unveiled at Old Trafford during United’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday.

Why United Moved Fast

Newcastle had submitted two bids — the second totalling £69.7m plus add-ons — but United moved swiftly behind the scenes. Key figures at the club, including Jason Wilcox, Christopher Vivell, and Matt Hargreaves, were instrumental in finalising the deal with Leipzig.

United were keen to avoid a bidding war and impressed both the player and his representatives by showing a clear plan for Sesko’s development.

Sesko Only Wanted Unite

Despite Newcastle’s higher offer, Sesko’s desire to join United was decisive. Leipzig were professional throughout negotiations and the deal progressed quickly once it was made clear that the player had his heart set on Old Trafford.

Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig and has often been compared to Erling Haaland for his powerful running, intelligent movement, and physical presence.

Implications for Others

  • Rasmus Hojlund’s future now looks uncertain. United are reportedly open to offers of around £40 million, with AC Milan showing interest.
  • Leipzig had been exploring a loan deal for Hojlund as part of the Sesko move but nothing has materialised.
  • Newcastle, who hoped Sesko could replace Isak if the Swedish forward left, may now be forced to block any Liverpool move for their star striker.

What’s Next?

If all goes to plan, Sesko could be officially announced before United kick off their Premier League campaign. With pre-season form behind him and the faith of the United hierarchy, fans will be hoping he can hit the ground running.
