Erling Haaland brace sends Norway through to their first ever World Cup quarter-final

The Manchester City forward scored twice in 11 minutes to send Norway into the final eight.

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland made some huge saves in the first-half. The ex-Aston Villa shot-stopper denied Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes from the spot after just 14 minutes.

Haaland opened the scoring in the 79th minute, beating Gabriel at the back post to head the Vikings ahead, from Andreas Schjelderup’s stood up cross,

The 25-year-old added his second on 90 minutes. Schjelderup again the provider, laid the ball off to Haaland, who took a touch and fired into Alisson’s bottom left corner.

Neymar converted a penalty in the 10th minute of added time, but Norway progressed.

Haaland’s brace moves him joint top on seven goals, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in the Golden Boot race.

Norway will face the winner of Mexico and England in the quarter-final.
