Germany vs Ivory Coast: World Cup betting preview

Germany and Ivory Coast go head-to-head in one of the standout fixtures of the second round of World Cup group-stage matches.

After Germany opened their campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over Curaçao and Ivory Coast battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ecuador, the equation is simple. A win for Germany would secure their place in the knockout stages, while Ivory Coast know a positive result would leave qualification firmly in their own hands heading into the final matchday.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side looked every inch a title contender in their opening game. Germany controlled possession from start to finish, created chances at will and showcased the attacking talent that has made them one of the tournament favourites. Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz all impressed as Die Mannschaft extended their winning run to double figures.

Ivory Coast, meanwhile, demonstrated why they are regarded as one of Africa’s strongest teams. The reigning AFCON champions matched Ecuador physically and tactically for long periods and possess enough quality to trouble any defence.

However, this represents a significant step up in opposition.

Germany have scored six goals in their last two matches and appear to be peaking at exactly the right time.

Germany to Win

While Ivory Coast are capable of making life difficult, Germany look one of the most complete teams in the competition.

Nagelsmann’s side have won 10 consecutive matches in all competitions and have looked particularly dangerous going forward. The midfield combination of Musiala, Wirtz and Pavlovic gives Germany creativity in abundance, while their defensive structure has improved considerably over the past 12 months.

Ivory Coast will likely enjoy moments on the counter-attack, but Germany’s superior quality across the pitch should ultimately tell.

Backing Germany to secure another three points looks the safest route into the match.

Jamal Musiala Anytime Goalscorer

Few players have started the tournament better than Jamal Musiala.

The Bayern Munich star was outstanding against Curaçao and continues to be Germany’s most dangerous attacking weapon. His ability to drift past defenders, arrive late in the box and create chances from seemingly nothing makes him a nightmare opponent.

Ivory Coast’s defence will have their hands full trying to contain Germany’s movement in the final third, and Musiala looks well placed to capitalise.

If Germany are to continue their strong start, there is every chance the 23-year-old will be among the goals once again.

Score Prediction: Germany 2-1 Ivory Coast
