West Ham sack Potter after performance issues

West Ham have officially parted ways with Graham Potter after just eight months in charge, citing results and performances that “have not matched expectations.”

The Hammers sit 19th in the Premier League with only three points from their first five games of the 2025/26 campaign, leaving the board with little choice but to act. In their Saturday morning statement, the club said a change was “necessary to help improve the team’s position… as soon as possible.”

Potter’s entire backroom staff — assistant coach Bruno Saltor, first-team coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, lead goalkeeper coach Casper Ankergren and goalkeeper coach Linus Kandolin — have also departed immediately.

Nuno Espírito Santo has emerged as the leading candidate to take over, with the club already beginning the search process.

West Ham thanked Potter and his team for their “hard work” and wished them success in the future, while making clear no further comment will be made until an appointment is finalised.

The timing leaves the Hammers in a difficult spot ahead of crucial fixtures — away at Everton on Monday, followed by a trip to Arsenal before the international break.
