Shane Lowry confirmed for Team Europe as Donald finalises Ryder Cup picks

Shane Lowry will tee it up for Team Europe at Bethpage Black later this month after being confirmed as one of Luke Donald’s captain’s picks.

It’s the third Ryder Cup in a row where the Offaly man has been handed a wild card, and Donald says Lowry’s value goes way beyond his golf.

“His infectious energy is huge in the team room,” Donald said. “He understands team above everything else. And he’s one hell of a player as well.”

Lowry admitted the wait had been “stressful” but vowed to repay Donald’s faith:

“It’s unbelievable. Hopefully I can produce the goods in New York.”

Lowry is set to reunite with Austrian Sepp Straka, his foursomes partner from Rome. “I couldn’t have picked a better partner,” Straka said. “He made my first Ryder Cup so much fun – I can’t wait for more memories.”

Donald’s other picks include Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick and Straka, with Rasmus Hojgaard the only new face compared to the team that won in Rome.
