Newcastle’s £150m Isak Valuation ‘Divorced From Reality’ – Carragher

The Alexander Isak transfer saga has intensified after Jamie Carragher branded Newcastle’s £150m price tag as “divorced from reality”.

Liverpool’s £110m bid for the striker was dismissed as “derisory” by the Magpies, despite Isak releasing a statement accusing the club of breaking promises over his future. Newcastle hit back, insisting “no commitment has ever been made” that would allow him to leave this summer.

Carragher, however, believes Newcastle’s stance is unrealistic. Writing in his Telegraph column, he said:

“Obviously I would like to see the Swedish striker become a Liverpool player, but not at any cost. The suggestion that the first £110m offer for Isak is ‘derisory’ is divorced from reality. If Liverpool bid more than £130m, it is too much – you’d want Kylian Mbappé for that fee.”

Isak, 25, has impressed since arriving in England but questions remain over his durability. He has missed 36 league starts across three seasons and 10 of his last 44 goals came from the penalty spot.

Despite Isak pushing for a move to Anfield, Newcastle remain firm with three years left on his contract and Champions League football returning to St James’ Park. Carragher suggested a deal is more likely in 2026, when Isak could negotiate new terms with written guarantees.

For now, the saga has left Eddie Howe without his best player and Newcastle fans divided after Isak was left out of their Premier League opener against Aston Villa.
