New Premier League club join Arsenal and Man City in race for Sandro Tonali

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer as interest in the Italian international continues to intensify.

The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe following another impressive campaign at St James’ Park, with Arsenal and Manchester City heavily linked with a move.

However, Tottenham are now believed to be monitoring the situation closely as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided a fresh update on Tonali’s future this week, revealing that Manchester United have effectively cooled their interest due to Newcastle’s valuation of the player. Romano explained that the Red Devils consider the midfielder “too expensive” at Newcastle’s reported £100 million asking price.

Romano also recently reported that Arsenal have made contact regarding a potential deal for the Italy international, while Manchester City remain admirers of the former AC Milan star.

That has now opened the door for other clubs to assess their options, with Spurs becoming the latest side to be credited with an interest in the Newcastle midfielder.

Tonali has become a key figure under Eddie Howe since arriving from AC Milan in a record-breaking transfer in 2023. Despite serving a lengthy suspension during his time in England, the midfielder has re-established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout performers and remains under a long-term contract on Tyneside.

Newcastle are understood to have no desire to sell the Italian and have reportedly placed a valuation in excess of £100 million on the player in an effort to deter potential suitors. The club are even said to be considering giving Tonali a more prominent leadership role within the squad moving forward.

For Tottenham, the attraction is obvious.

The North London club are expected to add further quality in central midfield this summer, and Tonali’s combination of technical ability, defensive awareness and Premier League experience would make him one of the most complete midfielders available on the market.

Whether Spurs are willing to meet Newcastle’s enormous demands remains to be seen, but their reported interest ensures Tonali’s future will remain one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer window.

With Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham all monitoring developments, Newcastle could soon find themselves fighting off some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs to keep hold of one of their most important players.
