Man Utd Weigh Move for Free Agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Striker Depth Option

Fresh off securing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a £73.5m deal, Manchester United are reportedly eyeing former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to add depth to their forward line.

Manager Ruben Amorim has already bolstered his attack with Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, but still wants strong rotation options in every position. According to reports, United see Calvert-Lewin as an experienced “third or fourth-choice striker” capable of offering cover across the season.

The 11-time England international is currently a free agent after leaving Everton at the end of his contract, with injuries hampering recent campaigns. Despite interest from Newcastle United, West Ham, and newly-promoted Sunderland, United are said to be his preferred destination. Sunderland are reportedly the most aggressive domestic bidder, offering first-team football and a lucrative deal.

Newcastle’s interest has stalled due to wage demands, while West Ham are monitoring the situation. For United, a move for Calvert-Lewin would provide experienced cover without committing a major transfer fee – a useful move in a window where the club is also pursuing a mobile midfielder and a new goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Sesko has increased speculation over Rasmus Hojlund’s future. United are open to a potential loan-to-buy deal, but the Danish forward insists he wants to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Calvert-Lewin’s next move could hinge on whether he prioritises top-six football or a guaranteed starting role – and with United weighing their options, the decision may come sooner rather than later.
