Manchester United have failed in an approach to sign Real Madrid teenager Endrick as short-term cover for Benjamin Šeško, who suffered a left-knee knock in the 2-2 draw with Spurs at the weekend.
Šeško, a summer arrival, came on but couldn’t finish the match after a heavy challenge from Micky van de Ven. He has since pulled out of Slovenia duty while United await scan results to determine the severity.
With Rúben Amorim eyeing a January attacking reinforcement, United sounded out Endrick — but the 18-year-old is set to join Lyon on loan for the remainder of the season, prioritising guaranteed minutes. The Brazilian has logged only 11 senior minutes for Madrid this term amid fitness issues and competition under Xabi Alonso. Seeking regular football to force his way into Brazil’s 2026 World Cup plans, Endrick favoured Ligue 1 over Old Trafford.
What it means for United
- January plans: The club is expected to keep exploring loan or affordable deals for a mobile centre-forward who can contribute immediately.
- Endrick timeline: Madrid and the player view Lyon as a development step; United would need to pivot to alternative targets.
