Liverpool have struck a deal with Crystal Palace to sign Marc Guehi for £35m, with the England defender set for a five-year contract through to 2030.
The move comes after weeks of speculation, with Palace finally agreeing to sell the 25-year-old centre-back, who was entering the last year of his contract at Selhurst Park. Guehi played – and scored – in Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend, but will now undergo his Liverpool medical.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner had previously stressed the importance of keeping Guehi without a replacement in place, but the club’s position shifted late in the window.
Liverpool’s defensive ranks have looked light since Jarell Quansah’s £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen, leaving Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté and Joe Gomez as Arne Slot’s only senior options. Gomez’s future is also uncertain, with AC Milan circling.
What Liverpool are getting
Developed at Chelsea’s academy, Guehi is known for his composure, anticipation and ball progression. He’s comfortable on either foot, a calm presence in possession, and has captained Palace to silverware in the FA Cup.
At international level, he’s earned 23 England caps and was a regular in the side that reached the Euro 2024 final.
For Liverpool, the deal represents both security and opportunity – a long-term solution in defence and one of the most reliable young centre-backs in the Premier League.
