Alan Shearer Calls Out Alexander Isak Over “Broken Promises” Amid Liverpool Links

Alan Shearer has hit out at Alexander Isak after the Newcastle striker accused the club of breaking promises as he attempts to force through a move to Liverpool.

The Sweden international caused shock on Tuesday with a social media post claiming Newcastle had reneged on agreements that would have allowed him to leave this summer. “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue,” Isak wrote, insisting a transfer was in the best interests of all parties.

Newcastle responded firmly, stating no such commitments had ever been made and that the forward, under contract until 2028, remained their player.

Shearer, the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, urged Isak to clarify who he believed had failed him. Speaking to Betfair, he said:

“We also need to know, who promised him? What did they promise him? When did they promise him, if that is the case? Newcastle have totally denied that. My feelings are exactly the same: he’s gone about it in the wrong way.”

The Match of the Day pundit suggested the 25-year-old was being poorly advised, pointing to the six-year deal Isak signed without a release clause.

“If they foresaw someone trying to get out early, then before they signed that they were in a really strong position. They should have had a get-out clause in it. Everything sort of boils down to: I think he’s being given bad advice and the way he’s going about it is wrong, I really do.”

Shearer added that Isak’s public statement had “thrown flames onto the fire” of an already messy situation, though he admitted he understood the lure of Liverpool.

The saga is set to continue in the coming days, with Newcastle standing firm while Liverpool monitor developments closely.
