Crystal Palace have reportedly placed a hefty new valuation on Marc Guéhi ahead of the January transfer window, but the Eagles’ stance may do little to deter Liverpool, with all signs now pointing towards a move to Anfield at the end of the season.
The England international has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent centre-backs over the past two campaigns, attracting interest from Europe’s elite. Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been monitoring Guéhi’s situation, but Liverpool are increasingly viewed as the frontrunners.
Palace are understood to be holding out for a fee north of £70m if they are forced into a January sale. However, sources close to the situation suggest Liverpool are relaxed about the valuation, believing time is firmly on their side with Guéhi’s contract situation weakening Palace’s negotiating position as the summer approaches.
Guéhi was close to joining Liverpool last summer, with a deal fully agreed before collapsing late on deadline day. That disappointment has not cooled Liverpool’s interest, and the defender is said to have remained open to the move, viewing Anfield as the ideal next step in his career.
Liverpool’s new head coach is keen to refresh his defensive options as part of a longer-term rebuild. With uncertainty surrounding the futures of several senior defenders, Guéhi is viewed internally as a natural successor — young, experienced at Premier League level, and already a leader despite being just 25.
At Crystal Palace, Guéhi remains a central figure and has continued to wear the captain’s armband in key matches. Palace are understandably reluctant to lose their defensive talisman mid-season, particularly with relegation battles often decided by defensive solidity. That context explains the club’s firm stance on price, even if it ultimately proves unsustainable.
With Guéhi expected to have his pick of top clubs in 2026, Liverpool remain confident that patience will pay off — and that Palace’s valuation will matter far less once the summer window arrives.
