Gary Neville has weighed in on Manchester United’s latest crisis, admitting he is “worried” about the future of Ruben Amorim after Sunday’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City.
United’s loss at the Etihad leaves them 14th in the Premier League table, just four games into the new season, following last year’s failure to qualify for Europe despite a huge summer spend.
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, Neville warned that the next few weeks are crucial:
- Chelsea clash pivotal – He said the Old Trafford fixture must spark a turnaround, as another defeat could leave United languishing in the bottom half.
- Players struggling to adapt – Neville noted that the team have looked short of rhythm and performance levels, even against supposedly weaker opposition like Burnley, Fulham and Grimsby.
- Injury setbacks biting – The absences of Cunha and Mount were highlighted as opening “old wounds,” raising concerns about squad depth.
While stressing that losing away to City won’t cost Amorim his job, Neville warned that dropping points at home will ramp up pressure, particularly with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox closely monitoring performances from the directors’ box.
“I don’t think it’s a time for panic,” Neville concluded, “but I’ve seen this before. We’ve seen this film.”
