Alan Shearer might have smashed home 260 Premier League goals, but golf’s Masters Par 3 Contest twice denied him his caddying debut.
Lee Westwood revealed that the Newcastle legend was set to carry his bag at Augusta on two occasions — only for fate to intervene.
First time, Westwood’s wife Helen stepped in instead. The following year Shearer had the overalls on and was fetching balls… then a storm cancelled the event completely, the first time in Masters history.
“He didn’t even get to walk out to the first tee and was gutted,” Westwood told FourFourTwo.
The ex-world No.1 added that Jimmy Bullard is the best footballer-golfer he’s seen — “good enough for the Legends Tour” — while Sergio García takes the crown as the best golfer-footballer thanks to his spell playing for hometown side Borriol in Spain.
Even Shearer can’t score against Augusta.
