Liverpool have reportedly struck a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign striker Hugo Ekitike in a transfer that could break the German club’s all-time sales record.
According to multiple sources including Sky Germany, the Premier League champions will pay up to £82 million for the 23-year-old Frenchman — including performance-based add-ons. The deal would surpass Frankfurt’s current record sale of Randal Kolo Muani, who joined PSG in 2023 for £64.2m plus £12.2m in add-ons.
Ekitike has agreed personal terms on a six-year contract and is expected to undergo a medical next week before joining Arne Slot’s side on their pre-season tour of Asia.
The forward did not feature in Frankfurt’s friendly against FSV Frankfurt at the weekend, as the move edged closer to completion.
The French U21 international had an outstanding season in 2024/25, netting 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions — with 15 of those in the Bundesliga. His performances earned him a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Liverpool’s summer spending will now surpass £250 million, with Ekitike joining a wave of new arrivals that includes Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Reds had also shown interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, but their focus shifted decisively towards Ekitike after the Magpies reportedly refused to negotiate below his £150m valuation.
Ekitike previously spent time at Paris Saint-Germain but struggled to make an impact, scoring just four goals in 33 appearances before moving to Frankfurt, where he quickly reignited his form.
Liverpool are also expected to sanction several exits before the transfer window closes. Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott have all been linked with potential moves.
With this latest deal, Arne Slot continues to reshape his squad as Liverpool aim to defend their Premier League crown and challenge in Europe again.
