Bernardo Silva agrees deal with new club following Man City exit

He has made a decision after significant interest in him from Spain

Bernardo Silva is reportedly on the verge of completing a sensational move to Real Madrid after agreeing terms with the Spanish giants following the expiry of his Manchester City contract.

The Portugal international became one of the most sought-after free agents in European football after bringing the curtain down on a glittering nine-year spell at the Etihad Stadium, where he won multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups and the Champions League.

Now, according to reports in Spain, Real Madrid have moved ahead of rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the race for the midfielder’s signature. Sources claim Los Blancos have submitted an official proposal and are increasingly confident of securing the 31-year-old ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The move would represent one of the biggest free-transfer deals of the summer window.

Silva had long been linked with Barcelona, while Atletico Madrid were also understood to be monitoring his situation. However, Real Madrid’s interest is said to have intensified following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who reportedly identified his fellow Portuguese as a priority target.

Reports suggest Mourinho personally pushed for the transfer, believing Silva’s experience, leadership qualities and tactical intelligence would make him an ideal addition to Real Madrid’s midfield.

Silva leaves Manchester City as one of the club’s modern greats. Since arriving from Monaco in 2017, he made more than 450 appearances and played a key role in the most successful period in the club’s history.

Speaking recently about his future, Silva admitted he was weighing up several options but wanted to join a club where he felt genuinely valued.

That destination now appears to be Real Madrid.

While an official announcement is not expected until after Portugal’s World Cup campaign concludes, reports indicate the Santiago Bernabeu is the midfielder’s preferred destination, with negotiations now at an advanced stage.

Should the deal be completed, Real Madrid would secure one of Europe’s most decorated midfielders without paying a transfer fee, while adding invaluable experience to a squad already packed with elite talent.
